Play therapy removes barriers to happiness, allowing clients to experience innate joy and well-being.

What is Play Therapy

Holistic play therapy uses play as a primary means of communication and expression. It is based on the idea that play is a natural and essential part of human development and that it can be used to help individuals express and process their emotions, thoughts, and experiences.

In holistic play therapy, a trained therapist creates a safe and supportive environment where the individual can engage in play activities, such as drawing, painting, creating, playing with toys, or using imaginative play.

This is a heart-centred and evidence-based therapy that is a versatile and effective approach that can be used with individuals of all ages, from children to adults.

Its applications are diverse and include:
  1. Childhood Trauma: Play therapy is often used to help clients process and recover from traumatic experiences.
  2. Anxiety and Depression: Play therapy can help children and adults manage anxiety and depression by providing a safe space to express and process emotions.
  3. Autism and Neurodiversity: Play therapy can be adapted to meet the unique needs of individuals with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
  4. Family Therapy: Play therapy can be used to help families communicate and resolve conflicts in a healthy and constructive way.
  5. Adult Mental Health: Play therapy can be used with adults to help them process and manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health concerns.
  6. Stress relief and the development of joyfulness. Stress is a major cause of disease and illness. Prolonged periods of stress cause the immune system and many other bodily functions essential for good health to NOT function properly. No amount of surgery, medicine or other healing programs can help a person fully recover from illness while they are trapped in the stress response. Relief from stress allows the body to relax and repair. So, Play therapy supports the healing journey.

We excel in providing professional
practitioner level training

It doesn't really matter what we tell you, the best way to measure the value of a training course is by what the students and graduates have to say about it.

Internationally Industry Recognised

In Australia, play therapy is considered a form of psychotherapy, and as such, it is not subject to the same level of regulation as other healthcare professions, such as psychology or social work.

While some play therapists may choose to register with professional organizations, such as the Australian Play Therapists Association (APTA), the International Institute of Complementary Therapists (IICT) and other industry associations, this is not a requirement for practising as a play therapist.

This is an industry-regulated modality, and there is no specific legislation or regulatory body that governs the practice of play therapy in Australia. Play therapists should still adhere to professional standards and guidelines, such as those set by the IICT, and should ensure that they have the necessary education, training, and experience to practice safely and effectively. Our graduates can join the IICT, IAOTH, IPHM, HWPA and the CMA and get professional insurance.
